Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among health age. ADL and cognitive function in the elderly. The data were collected from 170 elders in Seoul and data collection was done from March 1 to November 30, 2000.
SPSS/PC+ was adopted for statistical analysis of the collected data. The results obtained through frequency, percentile, x©÷-test, t-test and Pearson Correaltion coefficient.
The results were as follows:
1. In the health age, 67% of the elderly were evaluated negative health management from 0 to +4.
2. The mean scores of ADL and MMSE-K were 2.89 and 25.53, which showed good ADL and cognitive function status.
3. The mean scores of health age were significantly different by sex (t=3.005, P=.003), but ADL were not (t=1.659, P=.099). Also MMSE-K were significantly different by sex (x©÷=5.545, P=.023).
4. There were significant differences on health age and ADL score according to cognitive function (t=3.104, P=.002 ; t=-4.452, P=.000).
5. Health age was signficantly correlated with attention & calculation of cognitive function (r=-.180, P=.019). And ADL was significantly correlated with orientation (r=.345, P=.000), memory registration (r=.211, P=.006), attention & calculation (r=.165, P=.031), speech function (r=.220, P=.004) and comprehension & judgement (r=.161, P=.036).
These results indicate that should be to provide health education program and motivation for the elderly.
